Dooms Day Normandy
By: Optimus and Luzi
Many people collapsed while charging due to the hard terrain and lack of the needed endurance. Some people were shot dead while running up to attack.
June 6, 1944- mid July, one of the most tragic invasions in all of France took place; hence the nick-name, Dooms Day. Basically, Dooms Day was when the Allied Powers sent overnight Naval bombardments, massive air attacks and gliders on the five beaches of Juno, Gold, Omaha, Utah and Sword. About 6,900 ships, 12,000 aircraft, 4,100 landingcraft, 1,000 transports flying in parachute troops and a total of 10,000 tons of bombs were used in the attack against German strong points in France. This was the largest modle ever assembled.
Until the very last minute, the place of invasion was the most heavily guarded secret on the planet. About 17 million maps supported the invasion and the training maps used fake names so that the place of invasion would not be discovered. 9386 Americans died, 5868 British and 21500 Germans all died in the attack.
